Happitots - Curriculum
The Bertram Nurseries Group provides stimulating, caring and respectful environments for all children attending all of our Nurseries. Staff are trained to promote a carefully planned structure for your child’s day through close monitoring of individuality and provision of ongoing activities to enhance and support your child’s development to their full potential. We are child centred and take the lead from the child throughout the day. We encourage and promote learning through exploration, talking, experimenting, thinking and creation in a responsive and respectful manner. We aim to have confident, independent, sociable children with a sound knowledge of the world around them.
All of our nurseries in the group follow their own local planning guidelines to work in partnership with their local council.
Our values we demonstrate in practice within our nurseries are that we recognise children as individuals and they have the rights, that we create non stereo typical environment, we encourage good citizenship, we treat parents and each other with the upmost respect and that we provide a safe and stimulating environment with a strong emphasis on Education and care to give children the best start in life.
0-3 Years
Our nurseries follow the “Birth to three matters” or “Birth to three” (Supporting our Youngest) depending on location of the nursery. Both of these documents are frameworks to support children’s learning and development in their earliest years.
They are guidelines for childcare professionals to develop a 0-3 curriculum to its full potential, ensuring every child is treated with respect and as individuals.
3-5 Years
We follow “A Curriculum for Excellence” the purpose for excellence is to improve the learning, attainment and achievement of young people. It is set out to enable children to develop their capacities as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. It provides us with and important opportunity to ensure that all children experience stimulating, effective learning in ways that are appropriate to their needs.
Our starting point in our journey to “A Curriculum for Excellence” is;
- To provide staff with relevant training
- To be using the terminology of the four capacities
- To keep parents updated
- To promote children being creative in all aspects of play
- To encourage and support active learning
- To encourage children to become independent, individual and contributors
- To use the four capacities when planning constructive learning opportunities
